What are the differences between a Set-Top Box and a digital adapter?

A digital Set-Top Box (sometimes known as a digital converter box or digital receiver) processes digital-quality signals and can be used to view all of the video programming we offer. In addition a Set-Top Box offers access to On Demand, Start Over®, our Interactive Program Guide and nearly 50 commercial-free music channels. A digital adapter is a simple device which only provides the Starter TV (formerly known as Basic TV) services channels.

Note: The encryption initiative currently only affects customers in LA and NYC.
