What is the difference between a Digital Set-Top Box and a Digital Adapter?

A digital Set-Top Box (sometimes known as a digital converter box, cable box or digital receiver) is what is provided when you subscribe to any digital video package. A Set-Top Box can access all of our 200+ video channels plus On Demand and Start Over® features. It also provides an on-screen Guide, plus nearly 50 music channels. A Digital Adapter is a simple device that provides access to Starter TV and Standard TV channels only by converting the digital signal to analog so that you can watch on your current TV set. Set-Top Boxes are available for a regular monthly rate, which varies by area and level of service. See our Digital Adapter support page for details.
