Overview

Program your Time Warner Cable remote to control your TV using the instructions below. There are two common ways to program your TWC remote to work with your TV and other devices, such as your DVD, DVR, etc.

 

Auto-Search Method (recommended)

Program your remote by displaying the code that works with your TV. This option scans through all of the codes in the remote control, one at a time, allowing you to identify the correct code.

Manual Method

Program your remote by looking up and then entering a code that corresponds with your TV brand.

Auto-Search Method (recommended)

The Auto-Search Method scans through all of the codes in the TWC remote control, one at a time, allowing you to identify the correct code. Follow these steps:

Turn on the device, such as your TV, that you want the remote to operate.

On your remote, press the corresponding device button [such as TV, DVD, CBL] and the OK/SEL buttons simultaneously for three seconds. The device LED will light indicating that it is ready to be programmed.]
Note: The LED will remain on for 20 seconds, and the next step must be completed while it is on.

Point the remote control at the device and press the CH+ or CH- button. The remote will emit power on/off code signals. Continue to press up or down until your device turns off.

Verify that the correct code has been selected by pressing the MUTE button. Your device should turn back on. If it does, try changing the channel to verify programming was successful.

Press the device button to store the code. The device LED will blink twice to confirm the code has been stored.

Note: If your remote does not control your device after following the steps above, try the Manual method.

Manual Method

You can set up the TWC remote control by entering a code that corresponds with your device’s brand. Using the filters below, select a device and a corresponding brand to see applicable codes.
If your brand is not listed, please open the PDF version of the manual to find your code then follow the instructions below.

Find your device codes using the dropdown options above, then follow these steps:
  1. Turn on the device, such as your TV, that you want the remote to operate. 
  2. On your remote, press the corresponding device button [such as TV, DVD, CBL] and the OK/SEL buttons simultaneously for three seconds. The device LED will light indicating that it is ready to be programmed
    Note: The LED will remain on for 30 seconds and the next step must be completed while it is on. 
  3. Point the remote at your device and enter a number assigned to your brand. If there is more than one code for your brand, try one code at a time until your device turns off. Note: Pause one second between entering each number of the code. 
  4. Verify that the correct code has been selected by pressing the MUTE button. Your device should turn back on. If it does, try changing the channel to verify programming was successful. 
  5. Press the device button to store the code. The device LED will blink twice to confirm the code has been stored.

Note: If your remote does not control your device after following the steps above, try the Auto-Search Method.

Volume Control

 

Once your TWC remote control has been programmed to turn your TV on and off, it is automatically set up to control your TV’s volume.

To assign volume control (VOL+, VOL-, MUTE) to a different device, such as the cable box (CBL), use the following steps:

On your TWC remote, press the CBL and the OK/SEL buttons simultaneously for three seconds. The device LED will light.
Note: The LED will remain on for 20 seconds and the next step must be completed while it is on.

Press the VOL+ button. The device LED will blink.

Press the device button that corresponds to the device you would like VOL+, VOL- and MUTE to control. The LED will blink twice to confirm programming.

 

Commonly Used Buttons

Understanding the buttons on your TWC Remote is essential to unlocking its full potential.
 
POWER turns off the device, such as AUX, TV or CBL, that is currently selected.
 
SYSTEM ON/OFF turns on or powers off all devices that are programmed through the remote.
 
Press GUIDE once to display the program guide on your TV screen. Press it again to filter channels.
 
MENU open the cable box's menu, allowing you to access Search, On Demand and Guide information.
 
INFO displays information about the program you are watching or a selected program in the Guide.
 
EXIT the program guide and go back to live programming. EXIT also clears on-screen displays.
 
SETTINGS displays a list of options -- set your favorite channels, program parental controls and adjust your display.
 
SELECT or OK selects a highlighted program or menu item and confirms a selection.
 
A opens the cable box's menu, allowing you to access Search, On Demand and Guide information.
 
B opens the search function, allowing you to search for a program by show title or actor name.
 
C steps you back one menu layer. It's useful when configuring settings and acts like the EXIT button.
 
LAST (or PREV CH) allows you to toggle between the last two selected channels.
 
ON DEMAND opens the On Demand channel. This is a macro button.
 
LIST is used with a DVR. It displays a list of your recorded shows and movies.
 
LIVE is used with a DVR. It changes to "live" programming when you are watching a show that's behind the current time.
 
#/ASPECT cycles the on-screen picture among Normal, Stretch and Zoom.
 
VIDEO SOURCE changes the TV's input source, such as a Set-Top Box, gaming system or Roku.

Buttons may vary by remote brand and model.
 

Batteries

If your TWC remote begins to malfunction, your batteries might need to be replaced.

Installing/Replacing

Remove the battery cover on the back of your remote and take out the old batteries.

Carefully install two new AA batteries as shown in the illustration inside the battery cover.

Replace the battery cover.

Note: This remote is designed to retain programmed memory for ten years even after batteries are removed.

Low-Battery Warning
When the batteries are low, the device LED will blink twice whenever a device button is pressed to turn on equipment.

Troubleshoot Your Remote

If your remote control is not working, please try the following:

  1. Replace the batteries.
  2. Check that there are no obstructions between the sensor on the Set-Top Box and the transmitter on the remote control. There must be a clear line of sight between the two.
  3. Check for an error message on the Set-Top Box. If the error message is number 1103 or 232, contact us with the displayed number. If the error message is any other number, try rebooting your Set-Top Box.
  4. Reprogram the remote to your device(s).

 

POWER is not turning your device on or off.

  1. Press the corresponding device button then press POWER.
  2. If the device does not turn off, reprogram the remote to your device.

SYSTEM ON/OFF is not controlling all of your devices.

  1. Press the device button, such as TV, CBL or AUX, that corresponds to the device that isn’t responding and then press POWER.
  2. With all devices now on (or off), press SYSTEM ON/OFF to sync.
  3. All devices should turn off (or on). If the device does not turn off, reprogram the remote to your device.

VIDEO SOURCE is not displaying additional devices when more than one device is connected to the TV.

  1. Press the TV device button on the remote and try VIDEO SOURCE again.
    Note: If the list displays nothing only one device is connected.

ON DEMAND does not take you to the correct On Demand channel.

Other buttons, such as volume +/-, mute and channel up/down, don’t seem to be working.

  1. Press the device button, such as TV or CBL, that is programmed to control that buttons function.
  2. Verify if the button is working. If it does not respond, reprogram the remote to operate that device.
  3. If the problem persists, then the buttons on your remote may be worn out. To trade it in, bring it to a local TWC Store or contact us.

Remote turns off the TV on its own or responds inconsistently.

  1. Replace the batteries.
  2. If the problem persists, then the buttons on your remote may be worn out. To trade it in, bring it to a local TWC Store or contact us.

Setting favorite channels:

  1. Press the SETTINGS button.
  2. Select FAVORITE CHANNEL from the menu on the bottom of the screen.
  3. Use the UP/DOWN arrows on the remote to locate and highlight a channel.
  4. Press OK/SELECT – a star should appear by the channel.
  5. Press the C button to save.

Replace Your Remote

If you have tried replacing your batteries and you are still having issues with your TWC remote control, it may be time to trade it in. Bring your old remote with you to a local TWC Store and trade it for a newer model or contact us for a replacement.
